SELF-CONTROL

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. Proverbs 25:28

Our daily Morning Prayer meetings usually have a Spirit-led theme.  When I awake the Holy Spirit usually leads me to a specific subject matter that requires prayer and intercession.  This morning we prayed for and concerning self-control.

Spirit-led self-control is NOT human will power.  Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit according to Galatians 5:22-23.  It’s a quality trait of the Spirit of God.  In other words, when we pursue God and allow Him to change us, self-control will grow within us and strengthen us to depend more on God than our own strength and thinking.

Self-control empowers us to live our lives in God’s righteousness, keeping our bodies pure from sin that separates us from God.   Self-control allows us to remain connected to God’s voice of instruction and conviction.  It allows us to usurp our desires and lusts by replacing them with a passion for God and a compassion for people.

Self-control is a key player in our own financial prosperity.  It’s carries within it the ability to not just make the right choices, but to be prudent when others around us are not.

What are the areas that lack self-control in your life?  Identify them and make them a matter of prayer.  The Holy Spirit will help you.  Your future and success depends on it!

Sometimes in my personal life, I say things without thinking it through and without the feelings of the other person. Also I have notice that many times I say things without thinking and they come out wrong. I know one of the main reasons why this happens is when I become to familiar to a place or a group of people. I need to honor and give more value to the people I talk to, that way I can have a better self-control to manage any situation.

This is something very important, We must ask daily the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the areas in our lives that we need to use self control. I must pray for the Holy Spirit to help me.
