Do You Understand?

Most people admit that their wrong decisions came from a lack of information.  But we live in the age of information; information is at our finger tips. We operate on the information super highway; information is everywhere.  I don’t think our problem is lack of information, rather the understanding of information.

As a Pastor, knowledge is what I look for in my leaders. I’ve had many talented and intellectual people come across my path.  I’ve realized that talent and intelligence doesn’t always imply understanding.  The ability to understand is what I look for in effective leadership.  And to understand is to be “teachable – a continual student.

Information, when understood, becomes revelation that illuminates our purpose and direction. Like a photographer, it’s the ability to develop a negative (unprocessed data) into a clear photograph.

Hosea 4:6 says it like this…

“My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge….”

It’s not just mistakes that we make because of lack of knowledge, we’re destroyed because of it!

The Hebrew word for knowledge is da’at, which means to have understanding.   This word is also a derivative of the word “yada” which is also the Hebrew word meaning “to know Him.” It’s a form of worship and intimacy!

So go ahead… read, study, think and ask questions.  To acquire knowledge is to expand your mind to KNOW GOD BETTER!  It’s not just a faith thing, it’s a WISDOM things as well!

I am still in a learning process daily. I must stay focus and push always to read, study, think and ask questions. Thank God the closer we get to him the more he teaches us.
