The Wish

What if God did for you as He did for King Solomon?  He appeared to Solomon, in his dream, and basically granted him a wish! (1 Kings 3:5).  Seriously, what would you do?  What would you ask for?

We all want to think we would do the same as Solomon.  To make you feel better, let’s review a brief back-story…  Solomon was the son of King David, the richest and most powerful man in his world.  David was wealthier than Bill Gates and more powerful than any president.  And he passed it all to his heir, Solomon.  Solomon had everything he could’ve ever wanted at his disposal.

So what does a person who has everything ask for?  Hmmm….

Here’s the catch…. What pleased God was that Solomon asked for an understanding heart.  And an understanding heart requires a hearing ear.  Solomon asked for the one thing he didn’t own; the ability to recognize and understand God’s will in everything so he could better steward his purpose.  He didn’t ask for wisdom as many think; he asked for a heart that understands.  The hunger to know came from him, the revelation came from God.

What are you asking for?  Stuff?  Money?? Opportunity?? Or a hearing ear that recognizes the intentions of God in what you’ve been purposed to do?

Hmm….

Thats Funny because I’ve been reading a book by Francis Chan that kind of opened my eyes to the same thing today. Instead of looking for what my purpose in life is and sprinkling a little of what God says it, I should be asking Him what He wants for my life. Much like Solomon. Why would you want to understand? To make sure your doing what He desires. 🙂
