RECOVERY TIME…
I’ve been nursing a severe back injury since last Tuesday. And one thing I can tell you is that I can’t wait until I’m back to full capacity. I’ve come to realize that every situation in our lives carry a lesson that reinforces a Kingdom principle. In this case, I’ve learned something about recovery.
I hate injuries… they are momentum stoppers. They disconnect us from the fray and make us feel impotent. All of us get injured from time to time; but it’s the recovery process that’ll determine whether the injury will pay another visit in the near future
There are a couple of ways of living life with minimal injuries 1. Stay true to your training – do not veer from it. Your workouts and daily routines will keep you from falling prey to injuries. 2. If and when you are injured, don’t chastise your recovery process. Face the truth and realize that you are weak and in need of help. You must take time off and away in order for full restoration to occur. So, when you announce your comeback, you will be as powerful as ever!
By the way, I know my back is currently injured and I’m recovering, but the premise to this blog is about SPIRITUAL INJURIES… I guess physical injuries apply as well. Hmm…
Anxious to read your thoughts,
Pastor Manny
Thankfully, there hasn’t been a time in my life where I was out of action for more than 2 days due to illnesses or injury, but in those days that I was, it was quite depressing. I felt as if I was worthless and couldn’t accept the fact that I actually needed help. This can be used as a spiritual lesson as well. When I am on fire for God then backslide, the recovery time spiritually determines whether it becomes a cycle in my life or just a bump in the road.
I know what you mean. I am not the biggest fan of going to the hospital myself. In addition, with spiritual recovery I think it is a time were God wants us to sit out and reevaluate our lives. God just prepares us to be stronger for the next level. Sometimes we have to be broken down and built back up again.
1Ti 4:7 ……train yourself to be godly.
1Ti 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
1Ti 4:9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance
1Ti 4:10 (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.
1Ti 4:11 Command and teach these things
I can literally feel where you’re coming from Pastor. Not only have I experienced the physical onset of the recovery process, but to an extent, not having appropriate connection to my local house has had me a little un east, like a fish out of water.
My focus now is get back in the right rhythm of being connected to the local house.
P.s all is well in T&T, still pressing hard for Jesus and the purpose at hand.
I would like to add that a balanced died will help you to keep us out of injuries also.
As a mother being out of commission is not a good thing. I hate not being able to take care of what needs to get done. I have had to learn that if I dont get rest and take are of myself then what good am I to my family. Sometimes when I am not feeling 100% I make myself rest. I guess its the same way in Christ what good are we if were walking around sick and not healthy. Thank God for the word that heals us, and his presence that gives us rest
The hardest for me is point #2. Sometimes facing reality and admitting injury is one of the most difficult steps to take in the recovery process but so necessary. One thing I learned from my physical injuries is how important it is to stretch in order to catalyze the healing process—meaning when we’re injured in spirit, it is not the time to remain totally dormant, but be active in our recovery. Keep pursuing and push through the pain, do not give up in the midst of your restoration.
Really good points and very on point for me. Very straight and to the point.
Well Pastor anytime anybody gets a hurt or briuse a muscle the doctor or the trainer gives them time to recover. we just need to keep moving and let God take you to the next level.
I have never had a major serious injury but know what it is to have a pinch nerve that takes your breath away. Let’s not even go when due to a terrible migraine I am indispose and not able to even care for my home. At these times I really get fustrated because of the many things that need to be done. As I am getting older I am learning to take these times to mediatate and I can truly say that God had reveal things to me during the recovery process. Maybe God let’s us go through these times to get our full, full attention.
Great analogy Pastor. Far often in our spiritual walk we experence momentum stoppers that render us impotent. To get back on track we must enforce a routine that will progressivley take us to maximum spiritual growth. You seem to be doing well at prayer tonight. You looked as well as can be expected for someone over forty, just kidding, I’m glad you are recovering and regaining your strength.

This is really good !!! Writting this down!
Unfortunately sometimes we let our pride get the best of us and decide to just keep trying to move at the same capacity as before the injury. In turn, all we are doing is hurting ourselves further instead of starting a healing process to be able to come back stronger than before. Causing further injury will only keep us out of commission longer than necessary and hurt not just us as individuals, but the corporate as well. Like in any sport… every player is important and when one is injured the team hurts. Same thing in the spiritual. If one is hurting then we should help them recover, not push them to function in their full capacity before full recovery and cause further injury leaving the team as a whole hurting longer or worse yet… permanently.
I think we most be prepare and endure when this struggles comes our way. Spiritually speaking as the book of James say we most endure and rejoice when times of perseverance come our way, so that our faith can grow. the spiritual always manifest in the physical, so I think the troubles and trials are always an indicator that God is working in our life and we most keep the joy at all times and praise God. That way we will always be ready to receive from God.
Just because we get tired or injured does not mean we remain tired and injured. God wants us to get well. God wants us to recover. God does not want us permanently sidelined and out of the race. We must plan to recover, be well again, and finish the race.
“Mark out a straight path for your feet…” NLT – Hebrews 12:13
“Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.” NIV – Hebrews 12:13
In other words, failure to restore or rehabilitate will result in continued uselessness, but restoration will result in healing. We must follow steps 1 and 2 as listed above.
One of the things that has been the hardest for me is to seek out for help when I’ve been spiritually injured – and it hasn’t been so much as not being able to share or talk to someone but I’ve injured my self by seeking out for help but refusing to take the medicine they’ve provided….
Everything you said it’s oh so real to me right now (spiritually wise) but learning to embrace the process of recovery… that’s the best one can do when injured.
Hehehehe this is a really great blog. Injuries suck but what matters most is that we do recover. We cannot let an injury stop our forward momentum… it may take us to a place of hiatus…and that is good. Sometimes we are so busy, always going that our bodies force us to stop. i think it’s good. Take time to evaluate your game plan, ignore the depression and feelings of failure, reflect, refresh and get going again.
Often times we find ourselves under so much pressure and needing to meet so many demands, that we often learn to work through pain. This can be extremely harmful to the body as recovery is necessary, sleep is key for the daily recovery of the body. This holds true for our spiritual life as well, we must take the time to step back when hurting and recover, if not we fall into the trap of “doing” and not “being”. Our daily recovery is time in His presence, without that we are hurting our spirt man.
It was great to see you back in action at prayer last night Pastor, do hope you’ll be 100% soon 🙂
It’s very sad to see you hurt and injured Pastor. And god has a purpose for everything, it may not be the greatest purpose and you may not like it but god has still given it a purpose. Also you say when people are hurt they need to face the truth that they are hurt, i feel like how some of us are. In our lives we see that something is wrong and that we need to change something, but we turn our backs to it and don’t change that thing that you know is a sin in gods eyes. So we need to see when were injured spiritually, and when we do see it we need to do something about it.
I think the best thing to do in both cases recovery physicaly and recovery spiritualy, is to just find a quiet place and spend time with God.
We all feel we dont need help when we are injured mostly because of pride. Our spiritual health is the same thing, people dont want to be accountable and have people help. So we all need to humble ourselves.
Unfortunately sometimes it takes a physical injury to allow us to re-focus and spend more time in His presence seeking Him, especially when we are by nature, “go-getters” and always on the move. When this happens to me, I figure the Holy Spirit just wants to get my attention and wants me to use the time profitably in the Word and in prayer and meditation.
Been injury is not fun at all, but in those moments when you feel impotent is when we can re focus, meditate and re bounce with more energy and effectiviness.
I experienced back pain about a month ago and it made me feel completely helpless. More recently I’ve learned to appreciate good health and feeling good and it took feeling bad to not take the good days for granted. I guess the same could hold true spiritually which reminds me of the song – All of my good days out weigh my bad days – I Won’t Complain!
I agree with you Pastor, when we fail to get what we need to get from the lesson we end up having to take the test again and experience the pain over. It becomes a cycle.
Spiritual injuries are the worst, and I am learning to recover from them. If I don’t I will be stuck in the mundane and cycles for the rest of my life.
I love this blog because, it talks about our injuries and that we think we are stronger but we are not. We are weak and helpless and in need of help. When we don’t ask for it we won’t get it and when we do help will come on its way.
Injuries could be caused by some we have done or something outside of our control. In both cases, in some cases, rest in necessary in others, exercise is necessary. No matter which case, we always need time to hear God’s voice.
I think healing is crucial, critical and extremely important. Unfortunatley weather spiritually or physically I believe many of us are to prideful and consider ourselves to busy to actually rest and recover or even once we finally decide we need some additional help we don’t want to hear or listen to the Dr physical or spiritual “Dr” God which eventually the injury ‘heals’ or a callous is created that gives temporary relief or healing. However until we are willing to fully listen, submit and obey will total healing take place.
Pain is a symtom that your body needs rest or attention. Back pain is so hard to live with.
The pain can help you lose focus on what is important and deter you from your goals and
GOD’S purpose. If I had to choose between physical or spirit pain: NO contest! I’ll take
physical pain any day. For when I follow GOD and I am aligned with HIM: I know my physical
pain will be healed.
I am hurting as I have stated in the previous blog. I am pushing through it now. I am trying to connect myself with people here. But I am not sure if they are the right people now. I know they were at one time in my life. But one thing that I have noticed is, that I have nothing from my past. From jobs, to friends, etc. When I went to Miami it was for a new start. Does that mean my past is to be completely left out? It was new for me and needs to be new from here? I am trying to work all that out now. I’m recovering from hurts that have occured and trying to move forward.
Time is the greatest healer, other than The Blood. We must give our body what it is asking for, rest.
