Tithing

There are seasons in our church when the Lord speaks to me about teaching and preaching on giving and finances.  We will go in that direction sometime next month. I’m convinced that people’s lives dramatically change when they gain a different outlook on Biblical finances and stewardship.

I know that many of us have heard many different angles on giving and finances, but the truth is that there is always a good percentage of people who have not.   And besides, I revisit just about every topic I can think of, in my personal studies, for refreshing and inspiration – God’s Word is so dynamic!

The reason why we have to revisit this every year is because every one of us needs a continual paradigm shift. So many people still perceive the tithe as an obligation. It’s an opportunity! Yes, Malachi 3 says you are “under a curse” if you are not giving a tenth. But what a promise! God wants to open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing on you that you cannot contain.

Here are a few principles concerning tithing that brought inspiration to me from one of Pastor Mark Battterson’s messages.  Meditate on them:

  1. God can do more with 90% than I can do with 100%.
  2. You cannot out give God.
  3. To be blessed beyond your ability you need to give beyond your ability,
  4. When you start tithing, your financial problems become God’s problem.
  5. The tithe keeps money from becoming your master.
  6. Tithing positions you for blessing.
  7. Tithing = Trusting

In my personal experience, tithing makes finances entertaining. It infuses me with economic hopefulness because I’m walking in obedience. I live in holy anticipation to see the way God is going to provide!

I can remember the first time I went to church on my own as an adult and was handed a yellow envelope with two boxes… “tithe” or “offering”. I stared at it wondering “What the heck is ‘tithe’?!” Lol, thank goodness in the next couple of days I found our church and everything was throughly explained 🙂 Tithing has become an essential part of my faith that is not a negative obligation, but a non-negotiable expression of my obedience and faith in our Lord. I really like #3 Pastor, that’s a good one.

I thank you Pastor for the teachings on Tithing, there was a time in my life that $5.00 dollars was too much to leave at church, and oh boy did God teach me a lesson, well taught at that!! Tithing comes natural, but I know that I still need to be more obedient and start paying more attention when it comes to tithing… God sure provides in one way or another he always comes thru, so why can we come thru for him?

These are good points Pastor, thank you. I know from my family that I will never forget when Bishop preached on tithes and offering on July 15, 2001, it was a paradigm shift for us. In the years that we have been serving in Impact Church (formally MHC) we so much not enjoying giving but always strive to give more. Also we may go through ups and downs but God is always faithful. He has not forgotten us and has given us more than a full measure in riches. Family, Friends, Health, etc.

May Impact Church be obedient to God’s Word and a culture of giving. God gave his precious gift, HIS SON.

It you are accountable in tithing you will have more blessings than if you do not tithe or give 10%.

I love to tithe. When I first I gave, I did because it was something I was told to do not knowing why I did it. Once I finally understood the concept and caught the heart of it, I gave with purpose and joy. I have seen God bless me mote than I can even imagine financially since I started tithing! I am looking forward to this teaching on tithing.

God desires our obedience beyond anything and apart from just been a principle, he promise us so much more. God is looking for people who are obedient and when we trust Him, He will give us more than we can imaging.
