Lesson From My Daughter…

I’m convinced.  God has a sense of humor and absolutely loves to watch the surprising look on our faces when His promises come to pass in our lives in ways that we had no point of reference.  And I guess that is what our “faith walk” is supposed to be like.  We have a tendency to confine God to our own mental box and expect Him to fulfill his promises within that environment.

I believe that is why God took Abraham, in Genesis 15, out of His tent to show Him the stars so he could try to count them.  His tent was a hindrance to what God wanted to show him.  God had to blow away Abraham’s mind to reveal to him that He was a BIG GOD! And as long as Abraham was inside the tent, the ceiling of his man-made tent affected his vision to see what God was promising him.  The tent kept the promises of God out of sight. He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” (Gen. 15:5)

In comes Calysta, my daughter. All she’s ever wanted to do is dance. She eats it, breathes it and lives it.  She’s had two colleges in mind where she wants to take her dancing to the next level.  One was New World School of the Arts in Miami and the other one was AMDA in New York City (American Musical & Dramatic Academy).

My first choice was, of course, New World School of the Arts. Why? Two reasons: 1. It’s in Miami. 2. THE COST. Granted, there isn’t any comparison between the two in regards to prestige, quality and venue. AMDA, by far, is the better of the two in many areas, but with that comes; you guessed it…the price tag.

So here’s the clincher… Calysta auditioned for New World School of the Arts, in early December and was rejected.  We received the news on Christmas Eve. Boy, was that tough. The lesser school denied her! Honestly, I was shocked and mad; after all, I am Daddy!

But God gave my daughter a word and a promise that she was going to dance and study in New York City. So, when AMDA arrived to Miami  for auditions, Calysta went for it! She gave it her all and left everything on the dance floor!  She stood on her word and promise. She left the “tent” of her disappointment, rejection and small thinking.  And after several weeks of stressful waiting, we got word that she was accepted with open arms!  And the reason why I say, “open arms,” is because they gave her a scholarship to be there! And that makes Daddy very happy! 🙂

I’m always proud of you Calysta!  And always remember, God is good. His promises are YES and AMEN. Hmm… I’m finding it hard to believe that  my daughter will be studying and dancing in New York City!

Really amazing! God is so good, he promise us great things and we most be faithful to the promise and keep the vision clear. The vision that God gives us is our major motivator, without it we get lost. Congratulations Calysta!!
