SLAYING THE SACRED COW
Preacher and author, R.T. Kendall, in his book The Anointing, said, “The greatest opposition to what God is doing today comes from those who were on the cutting edge of what God was doing yesterday.
In the last three months, my heart and mind has been on an unending quest for direction and for the breath of God to blow new life in our church and me. But I’ve realized in order for that to happen I must we must rid ourselves of some “sacred cows.”
The term, sacred cow, is an allusion to the Hindu reverence for cows. Their religious belief of reincarnation leads them to believe that the infinite about of “steak and prime rib” walking the street is their dead family member. All the while people are dying of hunger… I know… it crazy… But that is where we get the term “sacred cow”. It’s any thing that’s too highly regarded to be open to criticism or curtailment.
I’m learning the following…
I cannot allow my experience to become a trap. Now, experience is like gold; it’s invaluable wisdom. It is important that we log and leverage all of our experience, not so we can glory and reminisce of the good ole’ days, but to use it only as a foundation to build the new and the fresh.
Old methods, processes and even relationships that used to be cutting edge at one time can easily become sacred cows. They have a way of blinding us from new possibilities and potential. We, as a church, must fight to never become a closed system. The only things we need to hold dearly to is our Biblical doctrinal beliefs and our core values, everything else is subject to change. We must be willing to slay, on the altar of sacrifice, every “sacred cow” and allow for new bold and fresh ideas of serving God and expanding His kingdom to be revealed to us.
For this is what is about to happen in MHC!

It is hard for me to change my way of doing things especially if it is something that I am already used to doing. I am glad that you specified that slaying a sacred cow is not necessarily slaying what you already know, but allowing God to reveal to you new ways of doing things with the foundation of knowledge we have already. This is a tough one for me, but it can be done.
Sometimes we get so stuck in our ways, even in our walk with Christ, that we fail to be creative and try something different. What worked for one season may not work for another. I’m ready to embrace the new, go MHC!

We must identify those sacred cows as soon as possible and not be afraid to kill them, or they will get fat and drag us back or at least slow down our journey towards our destination.

Reflecting on a past painful experience can remind me that
it was one of the best teacher that I ever had and do not
want to do it again.
It is good to look forward to new experiences and choices:
as long I hold dear to my core values, Bibical Doctrinal
Beliefs and my Covenant with GOD, My Heavenly Father.

I have never been one to be a risk taker or take change easily because of the unknown but I am so excited for what is to come. It is time to embrace and leap forward knowing God will be there. His will be done.
Let’s kill the sacred cow in all of us. Change is good especially when it is led and directed by the holy spirit.
Thanks Pastor for letting me know what was a scared cow because I thinking like you that is food that can feed lots of childrens and we know that only one we should focus on is Jesus because he is the only one who can take you to the next level.
How can you pre-pare you’re family expectably when there young, When there are relationship that need to be killed for your benefit without affecting their relationship with that person?

I was once one of the main ones that did not want to touch the “sacred cow”. Glad I got past that. With that said, let’s move on to new things and embrace them.
The greatest challenge for anyone is to learn to do something in a new way. We most always have that desire to learn more and more, because knows so much that we have no idea, but He knows. If we can just let go of everything and give birth to a curiosity to learn more and more from God. We will never be late when He comes and visit us.
Pharisees et al. didn’t see the Kingdom because of marriage to DEAD traditions. Not so for sons of God – we are the bride of Christ who is LIFE dynamic. The Holy Spirit led us to a line, and we stand firm on the BEST side of that line. It’s the side of cognizance that our purpose is exclusively for His glory. Anything we ‘have’ (possessions, comforts, etc) were sacrificed by baptism and are now freely available to be utilized, replaced, or even destroyed. Obviously, in Jesus we have Life abundant in heaven and on earth…but if anything except His presence is exalted out of order, they become as millstones around our necks, and as opaque scales over our eyes.
