WHY PRAYER IS HINDERED, pt.3
I’m continuing in my 5 part series in exposing the issues that hinder our prayers. This next one is a “biggie.” And for the record, no one is except from this one. We all have it and deal with it on a daily basis. This stuff must stay crucified at all times and not allowed to take dominion over our lives. This is the 3rd in our series… and it’s:
3. Secret sin
10 For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. 11 They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1 Pet. 3:10–12
- Our unbridled speech gives Satan access to our life.
- It’s through our speech that we fail most often. If we control our tongue we can have dominion over anything and everything that comes against the will of God in our lives.
- Israel faced several situations where they prayed to no avail because of secret sin in their midst; for example, Achan’s theft of Jericho treasure (Josh. 7:10–12) and Saul’s treatment of the Gibeonites (2 Sam. 21:1).
- The solution is to search our heart for secret theft, deceptions, broken covenants, and hidden attitudes of unforgiveness.
- Satan may be building arguments against you that are hindering your prayers.
- The closer we get to God in prayer, the more sensitive we’ll be to the Holy Spirit’s voice in our lives.
- When God’s voice becomes clear, secret sin becomes more visible and detectable.
- We must deal with and eliminate it from our lives.
- Secret sin stops the church and our personal lives from progressing forward in victory.
- Hebrews 12:1
Let’s deal with it and eliminate it…

This is another reason why we must all, from leader to new member, have someone to whom we are accountable. Sometimes we have so justified our sins in our own hearts and minds that we become numb and blind to them, with no conviction. We all need someone who can look at our actions and words objectively and who is unafraid to confront us when we are doing wrong.
We need to take everything out that we carry inside of us so we can talk to the lord.we can’t have any secrets if we are going to pray to the lord because he won’t hear what we have to say.
I believe this is a daily auditing of our lives and actions. May the Holy Spirit reveal to me the areas that I am failing in. I do not want the prayers of the church corporately to be hinder due to my actions.
Holding in secret struggles and offenses only brings joy to the enemy as it shows that he controls your tongue. When we confess it and deal with it, we are then taking control and God can take control now that it is no longer trapped in us.
It’s true the more we get closer to the Lord in prayer the more sensible the voice of the Holy Spirit becomes. With secret sin we always keep it so secret that we even create excuses not to reveal it, and that will hurt us so much. A lot of times is simply lose expectation.
Secret sin is something that we are guilty of. Sometimes we are so consumed in secret sin that it becomes normal. May God begin to convict us like never before and may we repent and turn from our wicked ways.
